Introducing Debris Records!

*ATTENTION ALL PRODUCERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!*

Now that I have your attention,

Hey guys! Back with some more music news. And today things are going to be a little different, cause usually  it's independent this, independent that, but this interview is all about a record label. A record label that's changing up the game! And that label is Debris Records.

A label for producers, by producers. Founded by two young producers, Thomas and Brad,
Thomas
Brad

going by the monikers Airblade and Housemate.

And I was lucky enough to interview one half of the entrepreneurial duo, who also happens to be a friend of mine, Mr. Thomas Pickering, aka Airblade.

Hey Tom, can you tell us a little bit about Debris Records?

-Debris Records is a record label that was made for new, young and upcoming electronic artists. It started with electronic / dubstep producer Housemate, who I met over Soundcloud after he asked to remix a track of mine, he says to me, 'I'm thinking of starting a record label! What do you think?' I was like, 'Go for it man, that would be awesome!' at the time I went by the name 'The Silent Project', and we chose to release an EP I was working on 'Happy Birthday' as a free release on the label to get it started. Later down the line we have grown and attracted artists of all electronic genres, and as of late I have been made the co-manager who handles all of the merchandise because I really want this label to make it huge and get involved more.

How does the process finding producers go?

-Housemate is really in control of that - however I have set up an email, wearedebris@gmail.com and if producers send me their tracks, I then send them straight over to Housemate ad he decides because after all, he is the main owner.

How do you think the music game has changed?

-Music is always changing, there's always underground people doing something new and adding their own twists to the music genre which personally, I really love! Dubstep and electronic music in general has started to get really popular over 2011 to the present, and to me that's great! However, people worry that it gets mainstream, repetitive and boring - but all genres have that. You always get producers who want to be the next big thing, so they try and copy sounds from legends such as Skrillex, for a huge obvious example. And their songs and drops start sounding almost the same, just with a few different arrangements. But like I said, there are underground artists out there always making something unique, and they inspire others which lead to another twisting of a genre.

What does music mean to you?

-Music is everything, I love music. It's a chance to say words you can't say in person, it's a chance to let all of your emotions out, it's a chance to inspire and motivate others through hard, challenging times. As for instrumental electronic and dubstep music - music can speak without any words. When I produce music, I think of my current mood and what has happened, and I always create a track with the mind-set of what I want to base my track upon. For example, I have just walked out of my job because I wasn't treated that nice, and I was hating where I worked and i felt like rubbish every time I left. I came home, decided enough is enough and produced a track [which is still in production] named 'Curb Stomp'. It's an angry track with a furious drop. There are no words, however I made the drop speak for itself. I like giving my tracks personality and atmosphere.

What is your objective as a label?

-We want the label to grow in popularity and get quality content out there that you haven't heard of before because the producer has a small fan base, little popularity and is underrated. The goal is to get them recognized because they deserve it! However, sometime me and Housemate would release tracks (for free) for Debris to get the name out there. When we are big enough, I think we'll start selling EPs / Albums for our artists and ourselves to get something out of their and our work so we could invest in new musical equipment or software, and for us as a record label we can afford more merch for us to get in stock.

How would you say you guys differ from other labels?

-We are a big family, we're open to lots of genres and we are a bunch of people from all over the world that are down to earth. I am pretty close to two artists in the label - Housemate and G3N3515, we all live quite a far distance from each other but we speak regularly and even class ourselves as friends now, although we haven't even met in person yet! Everything has all been done online, however in the future i'm moving closer to Housemate and i'm going to look for somewhere I can buy  a studio for Debris Records, so we can get together with all of are artists, scout new talents and master tracks from all debris members to a high, professional standard. Debris is not just a record label to me, it's another family - and will be i my heart for the rest of my days due to the fact Debris was the motivation to continue making my music, even though when I first started I was rubbish and really hating myself for it.Now i'm always improving as time goes on!

Where is Debris Records located?

-We are all over! But me and Housemate live in the UK, and when we invest in some money for the label we'll get ourselves a HQ to work in, and this will be in the UK I'm thinking.

Anything to say to the readers Airblade?

-If you're a new producer like myself, don't have anything to fall back on because then you'll already be giving yourself that possibility of you failing to make it as a producer. Just make music you love, don't follow the crowd! Be yourself and don't stop making music! If your not a producer - rules can be the same! If you have dreams of what you want to become, then you have no reason to not follow them and turn those dreams into reality!

Thanks so much Tom!
